Skin is a reflection

I agree by working on a different way of looking at your food choices you will begin to actually like healthy eating. I was just thinking this very thing today. I was offered a can of pop by someone, They didn't have to do this but, again they were just being nice. I havent drank any pop in 10+ years. I think I actually offended them by not accepting it.
Oh well can please everyone

Sound advice. I think it is a good idea to count your caloric intake once in a while just to get a 'feel' of what you are really eating. It can be quite a surprise to realize you are taking in far more calories than you thought. I don't do this very often as it can be tedious. However, even if you write down everything you eat daily for a week, you will get a good overview of your eating habits. Then, without doing any calorie counting, you should be able to spot areas that could be worked on for a healthier lifestyle

This is excellent advise, thank you Peter.

I've been noticing my skin was more clogged. Insufficient exercise I think.

Tonight? Tuna fish! yummy proteins!

Good advice Peter. Though reading about health can lead to a great deal of confusion because of all the contradicting information one finds in the media.

Peter,

Just including physical/chemical exfoliation in my regular routine has increased the health of my skin. Thank you so much for these tips.

Is it useful to sit in a sauna? Admittedly it will be 109 degrees here Sunday.
I bought some of the solutions, and yes it is working.

Tim,

Jury is out on sauna's. They are thought to eliminate toxins but your liver and spleen normally do a good job at that. If you do not have a tendancy for rashes or acne, it is probably OK.

DrPeter

Using Neurotorgina for the acne, My MD is putting me on a Atkins diet to get some weight off. Figure to get oil out.

Tim

I'll be glad when the jury is in. Saunas remain a question mark. But I've cut out hot showers. My skin his happy.

Sheridan

I had no idea hot showers were bad! I'll have to keep that in mind!

Now there is some good advice by Dr Helton. "Expose your skin to sunlight responsibly". One should NEVER allow their skin to burn. I agree that a good "clean" diet and exercise will also go a long way to keeping skin healthy. Not only should we be aware of what we put in our mouths, we should also be aware of what we put on our skin, our bodies largest organ. It may "feel good" and "smell good" but start reading the lables about what's in some of those products. Baby Oil (mineral oil) is a great example. It's a hydrocarbon. It's "oil". Just like the oil you put in your car's engine. It smells good, it feels good but it's toxic to the human body. Coco Butter or Aloe are protiens and a much better choice.
Thanks for the advice. Summer is here and teh living is easy, maybe not as easy as before the housing bubble collapsed, but easy none the less. Time to take care of our skin.

Peter,

I've been having a tough time beating caffeine. At first I just thought I liked sugary drinks, but I've switched to diet sodas recently and still have caffeine cravings. I've limited it quite a bit, to the point where a cup of coffee this morning was a real jolt. I should focus on weaning myself off it even more.

Aaron

In the beginning it is rough. For me, I had to get used to the fact that you are supposed to be mellow in the AM. Drinking coffee made me make rushed decisions that added more stress. Without coffee, I find I am more calm and in control. It was helpful to me to switch to herbal teas. At first, it is not as fulfilling as a cup of joe. But after 6 months it becomes better. What really convinced me was a trial of eliminating all caffeine for 30 days and comparing how I really felt. Then, like you, that trial of coffee after cleansing the sysyem really shows you how powerful of a drug that it is,

You are so right, I stopped exercising for over a month and a half and I felt terrible. I felt so bad, exercise makes such a difference.

Hi Peter,

I've been watching your vids at your website to get comfy cozy with the idea of the different options available to me as a client of yours.

Question/promo thought. post them at YouTube as well? You may have reasons for not doing so. just a thawt. (typo on purpose to feign a northern jersey although I'm from Princeton, so that's not even our accent. so tongue in check.)

April,

Some are at Utube. The Videos do not do the treatments justice. Some can be intimidating, focus on the patients facial expressions, they are totally comfortable and feeling no pain.

Ummmmm Helllllllooooooo Dr. Helton, where did you go? Are you all set with this blogging thing? I guess we'll have to just check your site out from time to time to see what you're up to!

Maybe Dr Helton has been reading all the new, recent evidence concerning the ever widening scandal developing in the world of Dermatology. Kinda hard to ignore this stuff. The truth can be ugly. The present Class Action law suits ain't nothing compared to what may be

I have heard that in Scandinavian countries it is common to jump in the snow after being in a hot tub. (reference house sitting /FOH days) I hear it increases circulation. Is it true, is it good for the skin?
